Astros String Together Two Wins in Snow Shortened Series With Cubs

by @ 9:50 am. Filed under 2007 Astros

Alright, a little winning streak.  The Astros strolled into Chicago, ruined the Cubs opening day, and proceeded to win another one to put together their first winning streak of the season.  The Astros may be in fifth place, but at least they have a few more wins.

On Monday,  Adam Everett hit a huge two run homerun in the top of the eighth to break a 3-3 tie.  The Astros actually took a 3-0 lead in this one but Woody Williams ran into some troubles in the sixth and Chad Qualls gave up the tying run.  Dan Wheeler, the team’s new closer, pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his first save of the season.  Craig Biggio doubled twice and scored two runs in the 5-3 win.

Chris Sampson made his first start of the season, and man was it a good one.  He threw five shutout innings and he gave up just three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Wheeler made things interesting and gave up two runs in the ninth but he held on to close out the game.  Luke Scott had a big game.  He doubled and drove in three runs.

Now the Astros head to Philadelphia after a day off tomorrow to take on a struggling Phillies team.  Friday’s game should be a great matchup with aces Roy Oswalt and Bret Myers going head to head.
