The Astros dropped the 2nd game of the scheduled 3 game series vs. the Brewers, 10-6. The loss brings the series to an even 1-1 tie. Houston now looks at a 33-33 record and continue to sit in the 4th place spot in the NL Central.
Both teams offensives came to play with the Brewers putting together a few more timley runs to take the game. Carlos Lee had a strong game for the ‘Stros going 3-for-4 including a homer and a double with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. He now has his batting average at .268 and his home run total now sits at 13. Miguel Tejada also had a nice game going 3-for-4 with a homer as well. He has his batting average at a strong .304 with 8 homers. Brad Ausmus also played well going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Brandon Backe took the mound for the ‘Stros and had a tough outing. He worked 4 innings giving up 7 hits, 5 runs, all earned, 2 walks and 3 homers. He was given the loss for the game bringing his record to a weak 4-8 with a 5.00 ERA. Tim Byrdak also had a rough couple of innings only working 1.1 innings allowing 2 hits 2 runs and 1 walk. He still has ERA at a solid 1.45 despite the poor game. Too bad for us is that the bad performances didn’t stop there as Chris Sampson got knocked around working 1.1 innings as well allowing 3 hits, 3 runs and walk. His ERA is now elevated to 5.74.
Not a very good game as far as the pitchers go. If the bats could have had a little more support the ‘Stros might have been able to sqeak out of here with a victory.
