Houston lost the final game of the 3 game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, 9-6. The loss is the Astros 2nd in a row and it gives the series to the Brewers 2 games to 1. They now look at a 33-34 record and weren’t able to make up any ground in the divisional battle.
A lot of offense once again for both sides only to have it go the Brewers way once again. Darin Erstad took the lead off spot for the game and went 3-for-5 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. He now has his batting average up to .315 with a total of 14 RBI. Michael Bourne also had a solid game going 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored. His batting average is at a weak .228 but he also stole his 25th and 26th bases of the season. Mark Loretta came in for some pinch hitting work and was very productive. He hit 1-for-1 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored coming off his 8th inning homer. The jack is his 2nd of the year with a total of 15 RBI.
Brian Moehler got the start for his ball club and had a difficult time getting out of innings. He worked 4.2 inning giving up 7 hits, 7 runs, all earned and 3 walks. He was given the loss for the game bringing his record to 3-3 with a 4.76 ERA. The next 3 relievers that came in were productive until close Jose Valverde came in for some work. He was knocked around in his 1 inning giving up 3 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk. His ERA is now at 3.94.
Back-to-back losses where the ‘Stros couldn’t get quality pitching even though the bats were hot. The Astros will now open up some interleague play with the Yankees on Friday nights.
