Houston Astro shortstop Miguel Tejada admitted earlier this week that he isn’t really the age he has claimed to be since making his MLB debut in 1997. Teams have believed that Tejada was born in 1976 when he was actually born 2 years earlier. The difference makes him 33 years old and not 31 as previously thought.
He admitted that when he signed with an MLB team out of the Dominican Republic he was actually 19 years old but, accoring to Tejada, under the advice of one of his coaches he claimed to be 17. According to SI.com GM Ed Wade hasn’t made quite a big deal about the situation saying “It was brought to our attention that the date we carry for Tejada, the year of birth, is incorrect. We told Miguel we were going to go ahead and make the appropriate changes and all the information was put forward. But the fact of the matter is he’s playing like he was 25.”
I personally don’t think this is that big of a deal considering how well Miguel is playing as of right now. He is playing like he is in his early 20′s and if GM Ed Wade has no problem with it, I have no problem with it.
